Alumni Spotlight: Jerin Thomas

Jerin Thomas graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical and Energy Engineering at UNT in 2016. He currently works for The Boeing Company in Patuxent River, MD as a flight test engineer.

How has your degree helped your career?
My Engineering degree has taught me how to be systematic about solving problems.

What achievement are you most proud of in your professional career?
While working at Pratt & Whitney as a test engineer, my team and I successfully resolved issues in the PW1100G engine. Over a period of 9 months at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse France, my team and I conducted over 50 flights collecting, analyzing, and implementing engineer changes to make Airbus A320 NEO a safer aircraft.

What new skills you have gained?
I am working towards my private pilot's license.

What is your favourite UNT memory?
Sleeping in the engineering lab while working on our senior design project!

What is your ultimate long-term goal?
My goal is to attend the US Navy test pilot school as a flight test engineer in the next 5 years.

What is your advice for future MEE UNT students?
Have fun, help your classmates, engineering is a team sport.
